BARRISTERS AND SOLICITORS / AVOCATS

Articling Programme

Genest Murray is committed to providing an excellent articling experience. We are seeking candidates who are similarly motivated and who are committed to working exclusively in litigation.

Our students are not subject to a formal rotation programme and work with all the lawyers in the firm, from junior to senior, on all aspects of our files. Work includes research, trials, applications, interlocutory motions, appeals and other proceedings as well as negotiations and mediations. Due to our size, and our lack of rigid hierarchy, our junior lawyers and our articling students often have the opportunity to work directly with our senior lawyers on trials, appeals, other hearings, mediations and negotiations.

We encourage our students to take on as much responsibility as is permitted by the rules of the Law Society of Upper Canada. Students are given full responsibility, with as much or as little supervision as is required, for many kinds of interlocutory motions in the Superior Court of Justice, and, from time to time, for Small Claims Court matters.

The salary and benefits available to articling students are in the range of those offered by other downtown Toronto law firms of our size and area of specialization.

Articling applications for the upcoming term should be addressed to the attention of the Articling Committee and should be submitted no later than the deadline set by the Law Society of Upper Canada. Applications should include a résumé and a copy of official transcripts from law school and undergraduate studies. The inclusion of references or reference letters is recommended.
